DeVonta Smith joins exclusive list of players to win Heisman, national title and Super Bowl
DeVonta Smith joined some elite company following Philadelphia’s 40-22 win over Kansas City in Super Bowl 59 on Sunday night.
Smith is now 1 of just 5 players to win a National Championship, a Heisman Trophy and a Super Bowl ring. He joins Tony Dorsett, Marcus Allen, Charles Woodson and Reggie Bush on that esteemed list.
Bush was the most recent player to accomplish that trifecta. He won the National Championship at USC in 2004 and then the Heisman Trophy the following season as he put the finishing touches on a historic collegiate career.
Smith was a member of 2 National Championship teams at Alabama — 2017 and 2020. He took home the Heisman during his senior season in Tuscaloosa after he caught 117 passes for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns.
In the Super Bowl on Sunday night, Smith played a big role in the Eagles’ win. He led Philadelphia in both receptions (4) and receiving yards (69) on the night. Smith also scored a touchdown late in the 3rd quarter that put the Eagles up 34-0 — effectively ending any possible hope of a Chiefs comeback.
Smith just wrapped up his 4th season with the Eagles in the NFL. He’s already totaled more than 4,000 receiving yards in his young career and will now enter the offseason as a Super Bowl champion for the first time.
