ESPN’s Dick Vitale gets roasted after analyst calls out NCAA transfer portal

It’s hard to remember but there was a time Dick Vitale was one of the more popular commentators in all of sports.
These days, the ESPN commentator’s takes are usually met with more angst than support.
That was certainly the case on Friday when the long-time college basketball analyst called out the NCAA transfer portal by posting a bizarre tweet that was filled with random capitalized letters and a ton of unnecessary slashes.
If nothing else, it’s fun to think of Vitale yelling as he typed this tweet out.
Check it out below:
Transfer portal totally OUT OF CONTROL /@CuseWBB has 10 players enter portal/today Jack Nunge Iowa to Xavier // T. Camara from UGA to Dayton //Malik Curry from ODU to WVA It is non/ Stop daily / this is NOW totally ABSURD!

While not all the reaction has been negative, the vast majority of the tweets we saw in response were not kind to Dickie V:
Why? Because athletes aren’t allowed to change their minds. Coaches hold these kids hostage because of this idea. Stop pushing this absurd notion that kids can’t transfer and do what’s best for them

Instead of blaming kids, how about coaches being honest upfront with PT? How about coaches and admin people keeping their word? Why should these kids makes all of the money do all the work but be restricted in making choices to benefit them?

@DickieV What about when a coach leaves for a better opportunity?
— Michael Renteria (@gRaFh7o2) April 9, 2021
Universities make billions off the kids. Coaches make millions and have the flexibility to move whenever they want. But a kid who goes to a college with a set of expectations for his role on the team shouldn’t be able to find a better opportunity for himself?

Coaches can break their contracts and move, but players doing it is OUT OF CONTROL?

Long time follower, second time replied. Where’s your Twitter outrage over coaches taking new jobs every offseason, too, Dickie? I’ll hang up and listen.
