It seems like every week, star Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia finds new ways to grow his legend further, and his performance against Utah State in Week 5 was the best he’s had yet.

Pavia was historic against the Aggies, racking up 400 yards of total offense — 321 passing, 79 rushing — and 6 total touchdowns while leading Vandy to a dominant 55-35 win over Utah State, a win that pushed the Commodores out to their first 5-0 start since the 2008 season.

With this elite showing against the Aggies, Pavia became just the seventh quarterback since 2000 in the SEC to record at least 400 yards of total offense and 6 total touchdowns against an FBS opponent while also completing 75% of his passes. He is the 25th overall player since 2000 in the SEC to reach the 400-yard and 6-TD marks.

He joins other SEC stars like Dak Prescott, Jayden Daniels, Will Rogers, and Jaxson Dart in that first elite grouping, further proving he belongs in conversations as one of the conference’s best arms in recent memory.

He’s also the first and only Vandy player to join either of those clubs, a feat that has added to the already lengthy legacy Pavia has built since joining the program before the 2024 season.

Pavia has built a strong argument as the best quarterback in Vanderbilt history, and if he continues to show out week to week like he has been, and can also keep translating his individual stats into team wins, then he could end up being the greatest player, period, in program history.
