Diego Pavia waived by Baltimore Ravens ahead of training camp

The Baltimore Ravens have waived former Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia, according to a report from Ian Rapoport. The move, according to a release from the Ravens on Thursday, was made to make room for veteran center Ethan Pocic.
Pavia was set to compete for Baltimore’s No. 3 quarterback spot alongside veteran Skylar Thompson and undrafted rookie Joe Fagnono out of UConn.
Pavia went undrafted after leading Vanderbilt to the best finish in program history. The Commodores won 10 games behind Pavia’s 3,539 yards and 28 touchdowns, which earned him a trip to New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony. Pavia was the first Heisman finalist to go undrafted since 2014.
The Ravens reached out to Pavia and signed him soon after the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft. He was initially signed to a 3-year deal, signing him in advance of a scheduled workout.
The reason for Pavia’s lack of early interest has less to do with his abilities as a quarterback and more to do with his size. Pavia measured in at 5-foot-9 at the combine, which is shorter than most NFL backups, much less starters.
Pavia is now looking to find his way to an NFL roster before the start of preseason on August 6.
