Florida quarterback DJ Lagway will enter the transfer portal when it opens next month.

He announced the news on social media on Monday morning. In a lengthy message, Lagway thanked his family, friends, teammates and coaches before announcing his departure.

“After much prayer, reflection, and thoughtful consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal,” Lagway wrote in-part.

Lagway is a former top prospect who will certainly be highly sought-after by other teams from across the country. Lagway spent 2 seasons in Gainesville but will now be looking for a new home in 2026.

Lagway was a 5-star recruit in the class of 2024. He emerged as a potential star during his true freshman season in 2024, helping the Gators to an 8-win season that year. However, he battled injury issues all offseason and had an underwhelming campaign in 2025.

This season, Lagway threw for just 2,264 yards and 16 touchdowns while throwing an SEC-worst 14 interceptions.

New Florida coach Jon Sumrall will now be tasked with adding a starting quarterback via the transfer portal this offseason.

The transfer portal will officially open on Jan. 2.
