DJ Lagway is heading home, after all.

After committing to Baylor less than 10 days ago, Lagway will officially sign with the program, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. It ends weeks of speculation that the former Florida quarterback could back off his pledge.

“The expected will become official (on Sunday),” Thamel posted on X.

With Jon Sumrall taking over for Billy Napier in Gainesville, Lagway’s initial decision to enter the portal wasn’t at all surprising. The former five-star recruit ultimately decided to commit to Baylor and return home to Texas, with Waco just two hours from his hometown of Willis.

What looked to be a firm decision, though, wasn’t without a bit of a roller-coaster ride.

Thamel reported a day after Lagway’s commitment that Lagway would take official visits to several schools before pledging, with Ole Miss mentioned as a possible landing spot. Lagway, for his part, confirmed that he was committed to Baylor in an interview with On3 on Jan. 9.

But it didn’t stop there. After Duke quarterback Darian Mensah entered the portal on Friday — the deadline to do so —the Blue Devils reportedly focused on Lagway as a “potential replacement.”

That, like the previous reports, ultimately will come to nothing. Lagway is headed to Baylor, where he’ll be the Bears’ presumptive starting quarterback in 2026.
