DJ Lagway wanted a fresh start when he transferred from Florida to Baylor in the offseason, but he’s got some injury problems to deal with very early in his time in Waco.
According to a report by ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel on Friday afternoon, Lagway is not expected to play in Baylor’s Week 2 matchup against Prairie View A&M because of an ankle injury. The former Gators quarterback suffered the injury in last week’s heartbreaking loss to Auburn, according to Thamel’s report.
Thamel did report that Lagway’s bum ankle isn’t expected to keep him out long-term. It’s up in the air right now on the eve of the Week 2 matchup if Lagway will dress for the game and be available, as junior Nate Bennett is now set to make his first career start on Saturday.
The Bears of the Big 12 will try to bounce back from the 17-16 loss to Auburn in Atlanta against the Panthers, a SWAC team. Baylor and Prairie View A&M will kick things off in Waco at about 8:08 p.m. ET on ESPN+, and apparently Lagway will be watching, whether he’s suited up and available to play in an emergency or not.
Lagway went 27 of 54 for 333 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception in his Baylor debut last Saturday against Auburn.
