Coach Ed Orgeron was relieved to finally beat Alabama so some fans will stop asking him at a gas station, for example, if a win is coming.
“Might get to go to a 711 and get me a Monster or Red Bull without people saying โGotta beat those guys.โ Well, I beatโem,” Orgeron said after the win over Alabama on Saturday, according to Ross Dellenger. “This ainโt the last time weโre gonna beatโem.โ
The 46 points on Saturday topped the LSU total from the previous give meetings, which was 39.
“Made up for a couple years,” Orgeron said. “We gotta see where this leads us. I knew we were the better team. I think weโre right there where we need to be. Itโs been a long time coming. We felt we were the better football team.”
On doing the Haka dance, Orgeron said he’d make good on a wish many fans want.
“Iโll do it,” Orgeron said, according to Cody Worsham. “But I ainโt gonna do it on no dern video.โ
Two years ago, Orgeron famously said after a loss to Alabama, “we’re coming.” After this win, he added to that line.
“This wonโt be the first,” he said. “It wonโt be the last. Weโre coming. Weโre going to continue to ride.โ
He also weighed in on what QB Joe Burrow means to the team, and the Heisman Trophy.
“To have a championship team you need to have a championship quarterback,” Orgeron said. “I donโt vote. But if I get a vote, Iโd give it to him.โ
A former newspaper veteran, Keith Farner is a news manager for Saturday Down South.
