Ed Orgeron compares Arch Manning to Joe Burrow after watching Texas practice
Ed Orgeron shared some very high praise for Texas quarterback Arch Manning on Monday.
In an interview that published with Barstools’ Pardon My Take, Orgeron was asked for his opinion about which active college quarterback he would like to coach. Without hesitation, the former LSU coach said Manning is the real deal. He compared him to Joe Burrow, who Orgeron won a National Championship with back in 2019.
“I had an opportunity to go to Texas and speak to the clinic,” he said. “I watched practice. We knew Arch Manning as a young kid from Louisiana … I watched this practice and I’ll say this conservatively … Arch is as close to, or maybe as good as Joe [Burrow], as I’ve seen.
“And I’ve never said that about anybody.”
Perhaps Manning will have a season to remember, but Burrow is still the gold standard for college quarterback production even 5+ years removed from his time in Baton Rouge. Back in 2019, Burrow threw for 60 touchdown passes and led LSU to an undefeated National Championship season.

Orgeron has been out of coaching for a few years now, but said in this interview with Pardon My Take that he’d like to get back in the game in the near future.
Expectations are certainly high for Manning, who will be making his 3rd career start when Texas travels to face Ohio State in Columbus on Aug. 30.
