LSU held on for a 27-24 win over Arkansas on Saturday to retain the Golden Boot for a 5th straight year. The Tigers, though, had to play much of the game without star defensive back Derek Stingley Jr., who exited after sustaining an injury on a punt return.
While the possibility exists that Stingley could miss the upcoming contest against No. 5 Texas A&M, it’s still too early to tell, according to Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron.
“I talked to Jack [Marucci] and (Stingley) couldn’t go back in the game,” Orgeron said after the game, according to 247Sports.com. “We’ll find out.”
The sophomore burst onto the scene in 2019 as a true freshman, recording 6 interceptions, 15 passes defensed and 38 tackles as he established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the country.
He has been hindered a bit by injury, though, sustaining a sprain to his ankle in the game against Missouri on Oct. 10. He did not play in the Tigers’ season opener against Mississippi State due to an “illness”.
