Ed Orgeron recalls Texas placing ‘prettiest women’ near LSU bench in 2019
Ed Oregon led LSU on 1 of the most dominant national title runs in 2019, with Joe Burrow at the helm and weapons everywhere else.
The Tigers went a perfect 15-0 as they rolled through that fall and into January in stomping Clemson in the national title game. Orgeron was at the helm of all of it, and he’ll forever be remembered as the guy who put LSU football back on the map during his 6-year run in Baton Rouge from 2016-21. The Louisiana native went 51-20 overall and 31-17 in the SEC, including an 8-0 march through the conference during that 2019 season.
Orgeron was a guest recently on the Mostly Sports With Mark Titus & Brandon Walker podcast, and he took everybody back to that glorious 2019 season. There was 1 observation though about that season that didn’t involve pure football. The now 64-yar-old Orgeron, who’s been out of coaching since his last season at LSU in 2021, recalled the Week 2 top-10 showdown in Austin that would provide an early reckoning about where LSU was going that season.
Well, the Tigers survived that trip to Texas by outlasting the Longhorns, 45-38, and the rest, as they say, is college football history. But while the Texas football team obviously got Orgeron’s full attention in that primetime showdown on ABC, Oregon took the time to compliment the beautiful women who happened to be stationed near the LSU bench that night.
“Behind (our) bench they had three rows of the prettiest women you’ve ever seen. They were trying everything,” joked Orgeron, poking fun at Texas for doing whatever possible to gain an advantage.
This was pre-SEC Texas, and the Longhorns came away with a loss that night, the same as LSU’s other 14 opponents that season.
