Ed Orgeron was brought back by Lane Kiffin to be on the LSU staff heading into the year. Orgeron won a national championship with LSU in 2019 on a team that featured Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase.
Orgeron was away from the team from mid-August to mid-September after he was in the hospital for 18 days after battling sepsis. However, he hadn’t yet gone on the road with the Tigers since the health scare, but he changed that on Saturday as he joined the team in Lexington, per The Advocate.

Orgeron was brought in by Kiffin as a special assistant to the head coach with an emphasis on helping the Tigers recruit. Kiffin and Orgeron have known each other for over 20 years, spending time together at Tennessee and multiple stints at USC.
During his time as the LSU coach, Orgeron finished wih a record of 51-20. He has done a great job of building relationships with coaches in the South, especially when it comes to Louisiana.
In today’s college football, coaches are going to be looking at anybody who is going to help their program be successful. Orgeron is one of the most beloved figures at LSU, and having him back with the team is definitely something Kiffin is happy about.
