One of the more tantalizing aspects of the LSU offense is the possibility that All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. could get on the field on offense.

Coach Ed Orgeron addressed the possibility this week after the Tigers wrapped up 6 practices.

“We were going to do it this week, in fact, we were going to do it the day he got a minor injury,” Orgeron said. โ€œI talked to (offensive coordinator Jake Peetz) and Derek about the type of plays weโ€™re going to run. Weโ€™re going to see where we are next week. I donโ€™t know if heโ€™s going to be full speed next week. Obviously, Iโ€™m not going to play him both ways if heโ€™s not full speed. We have to play that by ear.โ€

Of course, if Stingley appears on offense, and the Tigers have a big season, he could work his way into the Heisman Trophy conversation.

Stingley is a two-time All-American and one of the more celebrated players in LSU history. Stingely has a chance to join Tommy Casanova (1969-70-71) as the only three-time first team All-Americas in school history.

He will switch his number from No. 24 to No. 7 this year, a number worn by some of the best playmakers in LSU history, including recent defensive back All-Americas in Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu and Grant Delpit.
