Elgton Jenkins was a second-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2019, carving out a role for himself as one of the better offensive linemen in the NFL. Due in part to injury and to open up some cap space, though, the Packers cut him on Monday after seven seasons.
It hasn’t taken long for the two-time Pro Bowler to find a new home, though. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Jenkins will sign a two-year deal with the Cleveland Browns worth $24 million. Twenty million of that is guaranteed money.
Cutting Jenkins, who in 2022 signed a contract extension through 2026 worth $68 million, will save the Packers $19.5 million in cap space.
In 2025, Jenkins moved from guard to center, where he started the Packers’ first nine games. That included Week 10’s contest against the Philadelphia Eagles. That’s when Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love accidentally rolled into the left ankle of Jenkins, with his teammate suffering a fractured fibula and ligament damage.
That was the second significant injury of Jenkins’ career. In 2021, he ended up tearing his left ACL in Week 11 against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Browns are making some moves to improve their front five after allowing 51 sacks in 2025. Tytus Howard is reportedly coming to the team via a trade with the Houston Texans, while Cleveland is reportedly signing former Los Angeles Chargers guard Zion Johnson. And backup left guard Teven Jenkins, who inked a one-year deal with the Browns in 2025, appears poised to re-sign.
