Eli Drinkwitz insists there is “100%” still going to be a quarterback battle between Horn and Penn State transfer Beau Pribula. The Tigers head coach made that clear at SEC Media Days on Thursday.

Horn, who also pitched for Mizzou’s baseball team and was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the recent 2025 MLB Draft, is fully focused on winning the starting job at Missouri. “Sam has been adamant this whole time that his goal is to compete, to try to win the job in the SEC and play quarterback at the highest level,” Drinkwitz said at the podium.

If it wasn’t obvious already, Drinkwitz also told media that he doesn’t expect Horn to leave for the Dodgers.

Horn has more experience in Mizzou’s system, but Pribula probably has a higher ceiling. The former Nittany Lion played backup to Drew Allar this past season and would have been Allar’s backup again in 2025, which is why he left for a starting opportunity in the SEC. Pribula can spread the defense with his legs and impressed as a passer in his few appearances in 2024. It’s believed that the job is Pribula’s to lose.

Mizzou starts its season on August 30 against Central Arkansas.
