Eli Drinkwitz, as he usually is, was brutally honest about Missouri’s starting quarterback competition after Saturday’s practice.

After being able to lean on Brady Cook during the previous 3 seasons and winning a lot of games with Cook at the helm, it’s time for somebody to distinguish himself in replacing Cook, who is gone to the NFL. But so far in the first few days of fall camp, none of the 3 quarterbacks who are battling for the job this fall have stood out.

Instead, it’s been a mixed back for redshirt juniors Sam Horn and Beau Pribula, who is a highly touted transfer from Penn State. Throw in talented but inexperienced true freshman Matt Zollers and there is a real question mark surrounding Missouri’s quarterback situation for 2025.

Missouri’s head coach shed some light on the upside and inconsistencies of the trio who are tasked with trying to replace Cook.

“They’ve all done some really good things and some really dumb things,” said Eli Drinkwitz to reporters after practice. “That’s kind of the quarterback position. Now it’s about seeing, do they continually make the same mistake or do they self-correct. … That’s exactly what you want to see. That’s how you want this quarterback battle to go. Been really pleased with all 3 of them. Won’t know much until we get through this scrimmage on Monday and go from there.”

Here is the full clip of Drinkwitz talking about the quarterback battle:

Missouri fans will need to be patient over the coming days and maybe weeks as the 3-man battle sorts itself out, and the Tigers have their replacement for Cook to start the 2025 season.
