Eli Drinkwitz says freshman running back ‘stole the show’ in 2nd fall camp scrimmage
Eli Drinkwitz once again proved that he will be brutally honest on most every subject, even one that is taboo for many college football coaches.
And that is, discussing true freshmen and specifically praising true freshmen players, especially before they’ve even played a real game. All of that went out the window on Saturday after Missouri’s 2nd fall camp scrimmage, when the Tigers head coach stepped to the microphone to answer reporters’ questions.

Drinkwitz was asked about the performance of his running backs during the scrimmage. His response centered on true freshman Marquise Davis, a 4-star prize in the 2025 recruiting class from Cleveland.
“Marquise (Davis), I thought stole the show with his effectiveness running the football today,” said Eli Drinkwitz, after briefly touching on a few of his other running backs.
Here is the clip of Drinkwitz heaping praise on a brand new weapon in Mizzou’s offense:
Davis was highly touted coming out of Ohio. He was the 7th-ranked player out of the state of Ohio in the Class of 2025, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and he was the 11th-ranked running back in the class. Getting Davis to come to Columbia was a huge accomplishment, considering that he was recruited hard by Big Ten powerhouses Ohio State and Michigan.
But Drinkwitz snatched Davis out of Big Ten country and to Missouri, and now apparently the Tigers are already reaping the benefits of that huge recruiting victory.
