Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz has had a difficult year to transition to the SEC as a first-year coach. The issues are the coronavirus pandemic, the change in the SEC 10-game schedule, and several ranked teams on the schedule.
What’s it been like to be a first-year coach this season?
“The physicality of 5 SEC games has been extremely challenging,” Drinkwitz said on the SEC coaches media teleconference.
But he hasn’t been surprised.
“No. I think every week something is new and it’s something I haven’t experienced before… I don’t think it’s been surprising,” he said.
The strength of schedule was a known commodity, but it still shook out differently.
“We knew going into it, it would be difficult,” he said. “We didn’t know we would face 4 or 5 top 25 teams out of the gate, but that’s life… we have to stop giving games away.”
Drinkwitz also updated the health of his offensive line.
“I think we are down to 9 scholarship offensive linemen right now,” he said. “Larry Borom is going to be out a few more weeks. He has a lower leg injury… he won’t miss the whole season but he will be out for a few weeks.”
Missouri is off this week and will play against Georgia next week.
