Eli Drinkwitz trolls Ryan Silverfield with acknowledgement of new light bulbs at Razorback Stadium
The Missouri Tigers earned bowl eligibility for the sixth straight season under Eli Drinkwitz with their 34-10 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday night. Mizzou’s head coach wasn’t focused on his Tigers’ rest-of-season outlook when the clock hit triple zeros in Fayetteville, though.
Following his team’s victory, Drinkwitz opened his postgame press conference with a shot at the Hogs and head coach Ryan Silverfield.
“I’d like to tip my hat to the Razorbacks. Those lights, all the new lights they put in, looked good,” Drinkwitz said. “I know it was a big deal for them to get their light bulbs changed out.”
Drinkwitz’s light-bulb “acknowledgement” was a callback to comments Silverfield made at SEC Media Days. Silverfield spoke of changing the light bulbs in the building as a way to get away from the program’s “loser mentality.”
We’re changing out every light bulb in the building,” Silverfield said in July. “It was so dark and dreary — like, how do you get motivated? You walk the hallway and everything is trash. The stairs — nothing’s been painted in there. The lights don’t work. You walk in the weight room and the weights are 26 years old. I said, ‘No. No wonder there’s a loser mentality.’ … You’re not talking Division III. This is the SEC.
Missouri (6-2, 3-2 SEC) won the Battle Line Rivalry matchup for the fifth straight time with its Week 9 triumph. The Tigers have captured 10 of the last 11 games in the rivalry, with their lone loss coming in 2021. Arkansas (3-5, 1-4 SEC) has lost three of four games and will try to get back to winning ways against Auburn in Week 10.
