Widely regarded as the transfer portal king, Lane Kiffin‘s recent offensive haul at LSU appears to be his most talented and expensive yet.
But while the likes of Sam Leavitt, Jordan Seaton and Jayce Brown are receiving much of the national attention, it’s a player on the other side of the ball that has caught the eye of ESPN’s Sam Acho.
The jubilant analyst answered a handful of rapid-fire questions Saturday on SportsCenter, and be tabbed the Bayou Bengals’ Ty Benefield as a guy who will become a household name by season’s end.
“Give me Ty Benefield, a transfer safety from Boise State who is currently at LSU,” Ocho said. “Jeremiyah Love, who was a top pick this past draft, fumbled one time in his 498 touches in college. That fumble was forced by Ty Benefield.”
The former Bronco racked up a whopping 233 total tackles, 11 pass breakups, 5 interceptions and a trio of sacks during his three years in Boise. Benefield will now bring that experience and productivity to Baton Rouge in hopes he can make his mark in the SEC.
“He’s rangy, he’s physical and great in space,” Ancho said. “LSU will have a lot of big games, so Ty Benefield is a name you need to know.”
