ESPN names biggest weakness for Georgia ahead of 2026 season

The Georgia Bulldogs have wrapped up spring practices and are now looking ahead to the 2026 season.

Though Kirby Smart and company have won back-to-back SEC Championship Games, the Dawgs have fallen short in the Playoff. Much of the blame falls on the offense, which hasn’t lived up to the elite level of talent it often boasts.

The receiving corps, in particular, has been troublesome. Drops and ineffectiveness have hampered the unit the past couple of years. ESPN expert Mark Schlabach says the receivers are once again the biggest weakness for Georgia as we prepare for the 2026 campaign:

Weakness: Receivers.ย The Bulldogs lost four of their top five receivers from last season, and six of their top seven pass catchers when you throw in tight endย Oscar Delpย and running backย Cash Jones. No one will be missed more thanย Zachariah Branch, who had 81 catches for 811 yards with six scores. Returning playersย London Humphreysย andย Sacovie White-Heltonย are going to have to step up, along with young receiversย Talyn Taylor,ย Thomas Blackshearย andย CJ Wiley. Georgia did addย Isiah Canion, a big target who caught 33 passes for 480 yards with four scores at rival Georgia Tech last season.

The Bulldogs also return QB Gunner Stockton, who needs to show improvement as a passer for Georgia to make a leap as a team. We’ll see how he looks starting on Sept. 5 when Tennessee State makes a visit to Athens.
