ESPN recent published a story ranking the top 100 newcomers in the nation for the 2026 college football season.

LSU was well-represented on the list with quarterback Sam Leavitt, offensive tackle Jordan Seaton and edge rusher Princewill Umanmielen all earning spots in the top 10. Leavitt was placed at No. 3 on the list behind only Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover and Texas receiver Cam Coleman. Seaton landed the No. 5 spot while Umanmielen is at No. 7.

Leavitt was widely-regarded as one of the top-available transfer quarterbacks this cycle. Here’s some analysis from ESPN’s Billy Tucker on his No. 3 ranking:

Leavitt is the centerpiece of Lane Kiffin’sย No. 1-ranked transfer portal classย and a major addition for a Tigers team with CFP expectations. After leading Arizona State to a Big 12 title in 2024, Leavitt is capable of elevating the offense in Kiffin’s first season. With improved talent around him andย Jordan Seatonย anchoring the offensive line, LSU is counting on Leavitt to stabilize and maximize the offense during its championship push.

LSU is among the favorites to win the SEC this season, per the latest Kalshi odds:
