ESPN’s College GameDay will be broadcast on Saturday morning from Atlanta, site of the SEC Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia.
That’s hardly a surprise, considering the significance of the game that will kick off at 4 p.m. ET on ABC. But several hours before that, ESPN will entertain SEC and college football fans alike with its weekly pregame show to get them ready for the battle for conference supremacy. Of course, there are other championship games going on Saturday that will have an effect on the College Football Playoff selections on Sunday, but the Georgia-Alabama leadup will be ESPN’s center of attraction.
The network’s highly rated pregame show will be at the SEC title game for the third straight year and 4th time in the past 5 years, and on Saturday morning ESPN will have a very special celebrity guest picker for the occasion. College GameDay revealed on Friday who that celebrity guest picker will be and considering the schools involved in Saturday’s big game in Atlanta, this selection shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone with an extensive background in SEC history.
It’ll be Georgia alum and sports broadcasting legend Ernie Johnson, who has brought the NBA into homes for decades now. Johnson has hardly ever missed an opportunity to show his Georgia loyalty during Inside the NBA over the years, but on Saturday morning he’ll have the chance to show that loyalty without having to switch the subject back to the NBA.
ESPN celebrated the selection of Johnson for Saturday’s show with this post on Friday afternoon:
