ESPN’s FPI provided some prime bulletin board material for the home team in Saturday afternoon’s huge SEC showdown in Knoxville.
That’s because the FPI gave No. 1 Texas a massive 70% chance to walk into Neyland Stadium and come away with a massive victory that would keep the Longhorns undefeated. Right now, No. 14 Tennessee is undefeated, too, as the orange-clad SEC powerhouses come into the Week 4 showcase with identical 3-0 records.
Both the Horns and the Vols will be playing their SEC openers as well, so this will be a huge opportunity for 1 team to get the jump in conference play in addition to staying perfect overall. Texas and Tennessee will kick things off at shortly after noon ET on ABC, with ESPN’s College GameDay on hand Saturday morning in Knoxville to get the fans into a frenzy before kickoff.
Because Texas just joined the SEC in 2024, the all-time history between these college football powerhouse programs isn’t rich, but Saturday’s matchup, no matter how it goes, will help change that.
The Longhorns are trying to nail down their 2nd signature victory of the young season, following that Week 2 comeback win in Austin over then-No. 1 Ohio State.
Meanwhile, the Volunteers have taken care of business against lesser opponents in Furman, Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State to set up Saturday’s matchup of unbeatens.
