As Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels (2-0, 1-0 SEC) return to the Vaught this week, excitement is building in Oxford. They are set to host the Arkansas Razorbacks in what promises to be an interesting Week 3 matchup.
According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, the odds are in favor of the rebels, who are projected to have a 73.7% chance of victory over Arkansas’s 26.3%.
Historically, this regional rivalry has been fiercely contested since their first meeting back in 1908. Over the course of 71 games, Arkansas leads a series with the record of 38-30-1.
While the Rebels have been impressive thus far, they face a significant challenge from Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green. With an impressive completion rate of 72%, Green has already thrown for 10 touchdowns against just 2 interceptions. Averaging nearly11 yards per carry, he’s backed by an offensive unit that excels in pass protection.
However, let’s keep things in perspective: Arkansas has yet to face an offense that truly tests its mettle. Although Austin Simmons may have had some shaky moments early on, he appears to be finding his rhythm and opening up big plays through the air with the talented group of receivers at his disposal.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
