The Big Ten’s recent proclaimed dominance has been one of the many talking points of this offseason, as college football coaches, players and media members alike have all provided their takes on whether the SEC has officially been dethroned.
Winners of the past three national titles and the most recent Heisman Trophy, the B1G does certainly have a claim to fame, and ESPN’s Sam Acho believes that trend will continue this season…at least in one regard.
The former Texas Longhorn great was asked a handful of rapid-fire questions during a Saturday appearance on SportsCenter, and one of them prompted Acho to lay down a Heisman prediction.
“I’ll go Dante Moore. Last year, he could’ve been the second quarterback taken in the draft, yet he came back to Oregon,” Acho said. “Not only is he more mature, but his decision making will be better overall as well. He just turned 21, give me Dante Moore for the Heisman.”
Moore certainly enters the season as one of the Heisman frontrunners, as he’s coming off a campaign in which he completed 71.8% of his passes for 3,565 yards and 30 touchdowns to go along with 156 rushing yards and a pair of scores.
But Heisman voters will be intrigued to see if Moore can perform better in big games, as his worst performances came against high-caliber defenses such as Indiana (x2) and Iowa.
With USC, Ohio State, Michigan and Washington on the slate for this season, Moore will have plenty of opportunities to prove his doubters wrong.
