ESPN’s Todd McShay talks about the one knock on Alabama quarterback Bryce Young

When it comes to Bryce Young’s NFL prospect, size could mean everything.
ESPN’s NFL Draft Insider Todd McShay went on “College Football Live” to breakdown Alabama’s quarterback and was very complimentary of Young’s talent.
“With Bryce Young, I have him as the [No. 2 quarterback] in this [draft] class coming into the season. “The thing that jumps out is that he’s so great processing, going from one read to the next. He’s going to stand in that pocket and he’s going to be you first with his mind and then it’s his unbelievable touch and timing as a passer.”
McShay then went into the negatives on Young and they were completely based on his size.
“But the knock on him, especially talking to scouts who have been there this summer, is the size. He’s 5-10, when he’s listed at 6-foot-1, and a scout just told me the other day he weighed in at 186 pounds.”
The draft analyst continued and compared Young to Russell Wilson in terms of height, but added that Wilson had a strong physical makeup and weighed over 200 pounds.
There is a recent precedent of shorter quarterbacks getting drafted high in the first round. Kyler Murray is 5-foot-10 and he was a number one pick in 2019. Murray has an explosive running element to his game that Young doesn’t have, but Young has a higher upside as a passer.
McShay has Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud as his No. 1 quarterback in the draft. He claims Stroud has been measured at 6-foot-3, 218 pounds. He also mentioned Kentucky’s Will Levis as a potential first-round pick and said Florida’s Anthony Richardson as a quarterback with limited experience, but great physical tools.
College programs exaggerating a player’s height and weight is nothing new, but is anyone surprised that Young measured in at just 5-10?
