Everything Gus Malzahn said about Auburn’s QB battle after Saturday’s spring game

This spring, you can’t talk about Auburn football without talking about the battle at quarterback.
The four-way battle is between Bo Nix, Malik Willis, Joey Gatewood and Cord Sandberg, all of whom saw action in Saturday’s spring game for the Tigers.
Understandably, after the game, coach Gus Malzahn was asked about some of the quarterbacks. Here’s everything he had to say about the battle as Auburn’s spring session comes to a close:
On the rotation on Saturday and overall this spring:
โAs far as the game goes, probably the positive was I think all four quarterbacks made some explosive plays. I thought that was good. We had a couple of touchdowns to go with it. Overall, that was practice 15. I feel really good about what weโve accomplished during that time. We went into this game with a plan for the quarterbacks to play like it was. All of them did some good things. What weโll do next week is weโll be able to assess the 15 days of practice as a whole and weโll look at it from there and hopefully weโll get some kind of order with our quarterbacks after spring.”
On Bo Nix:
โHe has improved a lot but thatโs to be expected. Heโs a true freshman who still should be in high school. Itโs been good for him to get used to the speed and difference in play from high school to college.โ
On Joey Gatewood:
โHeโs a different quarterback than he was last year. He has a lot more confidence and is really focused and has been desperate to win the quarterback job. Heโs had a really good spring, and he made some explosive plays today. When you let him go live, he looks a little bit different, too.โ
