The No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers are preparing for their biggest test of the season this Saturday against the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide, who will make the trek up to Rocky Top after a disappointing Week 6 loss to Georgia.
The Vols will be looking to pick up their third straight win against the Tide inside Neyland Stadium, and the quarterback position will once again be at the front of everybody’s minds in Knoxville after redshirt freshman George MacIntyre got the starting nod last Saturday against Arkansas.
Star true freshman Faizon Brandon was held out of the game with a reported shoulder injury, but On3 insider Pete Nakos reported on Tuesday that the talented youngster officially returned to practice.
Brandon won the starting role in fall camp over MacIntyre, but was benched in the first half of Tennessee’s Week 5 game against Auburn after a poor start. This led head coach Josh Heupel to officially list the 2 quarterbacks as co-starters for the Arkansas game before ruling Brandon out shortly before kickoff due to the aforementioned shoulder injury.
Per Heupel, the former 5-star sustained the injury in the second quarter of the Vols’ Week 4 loss to Texas, a game in which Brandon was sacked 10 times by the Longhorns’ defense.
It will be interesting to see how Brandon progresses in practice this week, and who ultimately gets the starting nod on Saturday when the Crimson Tide come to town.
