Faizon Brandon shines in Tennessee debut as Vols roll Furman

Tennessee thrashed Furman 56-9 on Saturday in Knoxville, moving to 1-0 on the young season.
The headliner in Saturday’s win was true freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon, who had an excellent debut game on his home field. He completed 13-of-17 passes for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Elsewhere on the offense, Tennessee‘s O-line struggled early on in the game but later rebounded. In the first quarter, Furman recorded a sack — its only one of the game — and held the Vols to 5 yards per play.
Running back DeSean Bishop had an up-and-down game. He rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown, but also lost a fumble in the second half.
Defensively, Tennessee was dominant. Furman was held scoreless in the first half and managed just 2.1 yards per play through the first 3 quarters. Much of Furman’s production came in the 4th quarter when the Vols had reserves playing defense.
Tennessee will need to quickly turn the page ahead of a matchup with Georgia Tech in Week 2.
