Fans react as Mizzou-Ole Miss game draws unprecedented short straw on TV assignment
The SEC’s Week 7 slate is loaded. We have three games between ranked opponents, a matchup between two teams that just beat top-10 squads (Kentucky-Oklahoma) and the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry (Auburn-Georgia). With so many hotly contested games, some fanbases were bound to be upset with their start times. However, two in particular are feeling particularly wronged.
According to St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Eli Hoff, the Mizzou–Ole Miss game, featuring the No. 13 Tigers and No. 9 Rebels, is the first meeting between top-13 SEC teams to not earn an ABC broadcast since the “SEC on ABC” deal began in 2024.
Naturally, Missouri fans felt disrespected by the SEC for the scheduling decision. However, Tiger fans didn’t necessarily mind being slept on, like they have been most of the season.
The Missouri-Ole Miss matchup drew the same time slot (3:30 p.m. ET) as Alabama-Tennessee and Auburn-Georgia.
There’s no shame in playing third fiddle to that pair of contests, but there’s no denying the Tiger-Rebel matchup has more College Football Playoff ramifications than the game in Athens. It may also have more on the line than the Crimson Tide-Vols affair, with Tennessee trying to get the quarterback position sorted out.
