Western Carolina this week announced the sudden death of offensive line coach John Peacock.

“Catamount Nation… we ask that you please keep the family and loved ones of WCU assistant football coach John Peacock in your thoughts and prayers.”

The program called it sudden and unexpected death of Peacock, who was in his first season at WCU.

The school’s statement said it plans to hold a moment of silence for Peacock during the Catamounts season-opener vs. Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 4. He previously was an assistant at Tusculum University in 2020.

“Known by his colleagues and student-athletes as a selfless, hard worker who was always upbeat and constantly humming or singing,” the school wrote. “Coach Peacock will be sorely missed.”
