Field Goal Controversy? Fans decry officials after SMU’s game-tying attempt is ruled no good

We have a field goal controversy on our hands in Fort Worth. Or do we?

SMU football attempted what would have been a game-tying field goal late in the 4th quarter against Miami, but officials ruled that the ball just barely missed the uprights. As a result, Miami regained possession and marched down the field to bleed clock. SMU still has a chance and there’s no telling what would have happened if SMU had made the field goal, but plenty of folks online seem to think that the officials were wrong and that the ball just barely did stay within the uprights.

Here’s the thing: As explained on the broadcast, the entirety of the football must be within the uprights. Some still disagree (as we’ll show you later), but it seems hard to disagree with the officials’ explanation.
