Florida announces sellout for Week 1, extends streak

The Jon Sumrall era will get underway for Florida in its Week 1 matchup vs. visiting Florida Atlantic. Heading into the excitement of the new season, Florida announced that the game will be a sellout, which is the 19th straight at The Swamp.
The 44-year-old Sumrall, the former head coach at Tulane, is coming from the same conference (American) which Florida Atlantic is in. Sumrall guided Tulane to an 11-3 mark and the College Football Playoff last season.
That clearly impressed Florida, a highly decorated program but also one that has never made the CFP.

Billy Napier coached the Gators from 2022-2025 and never won more than 8 games in any season. Florida hasn’t cracked double-digit victories since winning 10 and 11 games in 2018-2019 under Dan Mullen. Still it’s a testament to the Gators’ loyal fan base that The Swamp has still been at full capacity despite failing to fulfill the standard of excellence.
Florida is 4-0 all-time against in-state opponent Florida Atlantic. In the most recent matchup, the Gators beat the Owls 35-14 on Sept. 4, 2021.
Florida Atlantic at Florida is set for Sept. 5 at 7:45 p.m. ET and will be televised on the SEC Network.
