Florida DB arrested on multiple charges, released on bond

Florida defensive back Dijon Johnson was arrested and charged with multiple felonies on Friday and ultimately released on bond 2 days later, according to reports.

Per 247Sports.com, Johnson was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony. He was also charged with possessing a firearm during commission of felony, itself a second-degree felony. In addition, Johnson was charged with a pair of misdemeanors: possession of cannabis less than 20 grams and resisting without violence.

The arrest occured in Johnson’s hometown of Tampa.

“We are aware of the situation of Dijon Johnson,” a Florida spokesperson said, according to 247Sports’ Zach Goodall. “We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal and administrative processes.”

Johnson, a former 4-star recruit from the class of 2023 out of Tampa’s Wharton High School, appeared in all 12 games for Florida as a true freshman, making a pair of tackles and recovering a fumble. In 2024, he played in all 13 of the Gators’ games, totaling 27 tackles and 2 tackles for a loss. He was also credited with a pair of pass deflections.

Following the season, he underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum, which he was still recovering from during spring practice.
