Florida expected to hire Greg McMahon as special teams analyst

Jon Sumrall is expected to add to Florida’s coaching staff. On Monday, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported that the Gators are set to add former longtime NFL and college special teams coordinator Greg McMahon as a special teams analyst.
Most recently, McMahon served as Tulane’s special teams coordinator in 2023 and 2024. He left Tulane insisting that he was set to retire, but it appears he’s set to come out of retirement to serve on Florida’s staff.
McMahon boasts some experience in the SEC. He served as a special teams consultant for LSU from 2018-2021, winning a national championship with the Tigers in 2019. McMahon also spent 10 years in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints, serving as the Saints’ assistant special teams coach in 2006 and 2007, then New Orleans’ special teams coordinator from 2008-2016. He won a Super Bowl with the Saints in 2009.
McMahon, who is 66 years old, has made stops at Eastern Illinois, Minnesota, North Alabama, Valdosta State, UNLV, Illinois, East Carolina and the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks.
Now, he’s heading to Gainesville for his first job in the Sunshine State. The Gators are set to kick off their season on September 5 against FAU.
