Florida made a big-time pickup in the class of 2027 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Gators have earned a commitment from 4-star defensive lineman Zahmar Tookes. He had offers from several other power-conference programs, including Penn State and Nebraska.
He shared the news of his commitment with Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Wednesday afternoon:
This is a significant addition for Florida. Tookes is currently ranked as the No. 250 overall player and the No. 28 defensive lineman in the nation for the class of 2027, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 1 player from the state of New York.

Tookes attends Brighton High School in Rochester, New York. He’s listed at 6-foot-4, 235 pounds.
Florida now has 19 commitments in its 2027 recruiting class. The group is led by 5-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller. Overall, UF’s 2027 class currently ranks No. 5 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
Tookes and other 2027 recruits will be able to officially sign with their chosen programs during the Early Signing Period in December.
