Florida earned a commitment Kofi Asare, a transfer pass rusher, on Sunday afternoon.
Asare spent the past 2 seasons at UMass and enjoyed a breakout 2024 campaign before entering the transfer portal. He recorded 30 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 1 forced fumble this season for the Minutemen.
Here’s his announcement:
This is Florida’s second transfer commitment of the day. The Gators also added a pledge from former Charlotte quarterback Deshawn Purdie on Sunday afternoon. Purdie will serve as a veteran in Florida’s QB room alongside DJ Lagway next fall.
Kofi Asare should be able to carve out a role with Florida next season, even if it’s just as a rotational member of the defensive line. He was productive for UMass in 2024, which was his third season with the program. He redshirted in 2022 and had a small role in 2023.
Florida is now up to 4 transfer commitments this offseason. Billy Napier and his staff have been selective to this point in the class, with the headlining addition being former UCLA receiver J. Michael Sturdivant.
Asare will have 2 years of eligibility remaining.
