Florida radio host goes off on ‘Jon Dumbrall’ after UF’s blowout loss to South Carolina
The Florida Gators had the college football world in the palm of their hand entering October. Jon Sumrall‘s team was 4-0 (2-0 SEC) and as high as No. 8 in the AP poll. Since the calendar flipped, though, the Gators are 0-2 with losses by a combined 47 points. And the fanbase is doing a complete 180 on Sumrall.
Following Saturday’s 38-19 defeat at the hands of South Carolina, 1010XL host Dan Hicken lit into Florida’s head coach.
“Hey Jon Dumbrall… what the hell are you doing?” Hicken began. “You didn’t prepare the team to play. It’s on you, chief. It’s on you.”
Hicken specifically called out Sumrall’s clock management near the end of the first half. The Gators mishandled the situation and were forced to settle for a 43-yard field goal, a try that kicker Patrick Durkin ultimately missed. The host said the sequence harkened back to Billy Napier’s mantra in similar spots.
“There’s 1:40 when toe hit leather on [South Carolin’s] kick… three timeouts in your pocket, and you watch [the clock] go tick, tick tick tick… wouldn’t it have been nice to not be hurried?” Hicken asked. “What terrible clock management, which brings back horrible, nightmarish memories of the last guy!”
Florida heads to Austin for a battle with the Texas Longhorns in Week 7.
