One of the most exciting parts of every new college football season is all the new alternate uniforms that programs around the country announce they will be debuting over the course of the year.

Many teams tend to stick to the same tried-and-true looks they have been rocking for decades for most of the year, but set aside a couple of games a year to rock something different.

Several SEC programs have already unveiled new looks for the 2026 campaign. Still, the Florida Gators might just have topped them all by dropping a throwback uniform to honor program legend Steve Spurrier’s 1966 Heisman Trophy-winning season.

These old-school duds are a faithful replica of the uniform Spurrier wore during his legendary senior season under center with the Gators, with the striking blue helmet and throwback Florida “F” logo complementing the clean all-white jersey-and-pants combo.

Spurrier lit opposing defenses up en route to capturing the program’s first Heisman, passing for 2,012 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions while completing 61.5 percent of his passes.

These stats might seem pretty lackluster by today’s standards, but back in Spurrier’s day, this was practically unheard of in the era of dominant ground games, the wishbone offense, and the triple option.

Spurrier’s dominance would guide Florida to a 9-2 finish capped off by winning the program’s first-ever Orange Bowl with a 27-12 win over Georgia Tech.

Spurrier would go on to become the head coach of his alma mater from 1990-2001, leading the Gators to 122 wins, 6 SEC titles, and their first national championship in 1996, 30 years after he captured the Gators’ first Heisman.

Arguably, nobody has meant more to the legacy of Florida football than The Old Ball Coach, and nobody deserves this kind of tribute more than he does either.
