Florida will be replacing another defensive starter in 2024.
Linebacker Scooby Williams is the latest Gator player to opt for the transfer portal. Williams, listed at 6-2, 230 pounds, leaves the program after 3 seasons on campus.
Out of Birmingham (Alabama) Ramsay, Williams was a sought-after recruit. Williams was rated 4-stars, the No. 5 Edge defender and No. 74 prospect overall in the Class of 2021 on the 247Sports Composite. Williams picked up 35 scholarship offers, signing with Florida over Auburn and others.
Williams redshirted his first season at UF, recording 3 solo tackles over 4 games. He made 8 appearances as a reserve in the 2022 season, posting 14 tackles.
In 2023, Williams appeared in all 12 games, making 10 starts. With increased playing time in a bigger role, Williams logged 53 total tackles, including 4 TFLs with 1 sack for 12 yards. He also forced 2 fumbles.
Williams will be considered a redshirt junior in 2024, giving him 2 full seasons of eligibility. The Gators have now had 20 players enter the transfer portal this cycle.
