Florida State adds former Tennessee receiver Squirrel White from transfer portal
Florida State announced the signing of former Tennessee receiver Squirrel White on Sunday.
The 5-foot-10 slot receiver lands with the Seminoles after 3 seasons in Knoxville. He took a visit to campus earlier this week and spoke with local reporters about his experience here. He’ll have 2 years to play 1 with Florida State.
White played in 12 games as a slot receiver and a return specialist during his true freshman campaign in 2022. He started the final 2 games that season and finished with 30 receptions for 481 yards and 2 scores.
As a sophomore, he started all 13 games and led the Volunteers with 67 receptions for 803 yards and 2 scores. His 67 catches ranked fifth in the SEC and tied for the seventh-most in a single season in program history.
This past season, White played in all 13 games but took a step back from a production standpoint. The ball was spread around more and White finished with 34 receptions for 381 yards and 2 scores. He also returned punts.
For his career, White has 754 yards after the catch (an average of 5.8 per reception) with an average depth of 11.6 yards on his targets. He battled drops in 2023, finishing with 7 on the year, but was better in 2024 (only 2). White has spent almost his entire career in the slot, with 93.7% of his snaps coming from that spot.
White dealt with shoulder and arm injuries throughout the 2024 season. He sustained an apparent knee injury in Tennessee’s first-round loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff last month.
