Florida State leadership is reportedly meeting regarding the future of embattled head football coach Mike Norvell. The news comes from college football insiders Pete Nakos and Chris Low of On3, following FSU’s disappointing home loss to a struggling Clemson team.

Norvell’s Seminoles fell to 3-5 on the 2026 season with a 36-24 home loss to a 3-loss Clemson team on Saturday. The record puts FSU’s bowl eligibility hopes in jeopardy, needing 3 more wins with 4 games to go in the regular season.

Missing a bowl game would mean Florida State did not play postseason football in 5 of 7 seasons under Norvell. The Noles last played a bowl game in 2023 after missing out on the College Football Playoff in a controversial decision by the selection committee.

The 2023 season was FSU’s best under Norvell so far, as the Noles went 12-0 in the regular season and then won the ACC title. Florida State’s only loss in 2023 came in the Orange Bowl against Georgia.

Since 2023, however, the Norvell’s team has gone 4-17 in ACC play, the worst record among conference programs. FSU posted a 2-10 record in 2024 and went 5-7 last season. Norvell is 41-39 overall in his FSU tenure.

Florida State fired athletic director Michael Alford in September and has not yet hired a full-time successor. FSU president Richard McCullough recently shared a message to Seminole fans updating them on the AD search.

On Saturday, a plane flew a “Fire Novell” banner above the stadium, misspelling the head coach’s name.
