No. 8 Florida will be without its leading wide receiver for Saturday’s clash with No. 25 Mizzou.

Vernell Brown III began the week as questionable due to an injury sustained in Week 4. On Friday, his status was downgraded to doubtful. Hours before kickoff on Saturday, Brown was officially ruled out.

A sophomore, Brown has been Florida’s top pass-catcher through the first 4 games. Brown leads the team in receptions (17) and receiving yards with 271 so far. He has two receiving touchdowns, tying him with Dallas Wilson.

In Brown’s absence, the Gators will look for a big game from Wilson. Also a sophomore, Wilson has 14 catches for 236 yards and 2 scores.

There is some good news for Jon Sumrall‘s team when it comes to the receiving room. Bailey Stockton, who also began the week as “questionable,” is off the injury report. A Georgia Tech transfer, Stockton has 13 catches for 106 yards and 1 score this season. Eric Singleton Jr., who was injured in the season-opener, appears to be full-go for the Week 5 ranked conference clash. Singleton logged his first catch of the year, a 38-yard reception, in Florida’s big win over then-No. 4 Ole Miss.

Kickoff between the Gators and Tigers is set for 3:50 p.m. ET. The game will air on ABC.
