The University of Florida has been without a permanent president since last summer. However, that post could be filled soon with a key candidate zeroed in on by the Gators.
According to Graham Hall with 247 Sports, Florida has recommended the current University of Michigan president, Dr. Santa J. Ono, as the sole finalist. It is expected the the move will be approved.
If Ono is approved and makes the move, it would be viewed as a big loss for Michigan and a big win for Florida. Ono has been a key supporter of Wolverine athletics during his tenure.
Ono has since penned an open letter to the Michigan community, revealing he expects to assume the post in Gainesville this summer and has informed Michigan’s Board of Regents of his decision:
I write today to share that I have been selected as the sole finalist for the presidency of the University of Florida, and once the appointment is approved by their Board of Governors, I expect to assume that role later this summer. I have informed the Chair of the University of Michigan Board of Regents, Kathy White, of my decision. This decision was not made lightly, given the deep bond Wendy and I have formed with this extraordinary community.
