Fluff Bothwell will miss the remainder of Mississippi State‘s game against Alabama with an apparent ankle injury. Bothwell, who was listed as probable on the Bulldogs’ initial injury report after an ankle injury against Mizzou, started the opening series against the Crimson Tide but left the game.

ESPN’s Katie George had an update on Bothwell early in the second quarter, saying that the Bulldogs wanted to test things out with Bothwell before he ended up being ruled out for the rest of the contest.

“He’s now on the sideline in shorts and wearing a walking boot on his left foot,” George said. “I’m told it was a prior injury. They wanted to see how it felt. Clearly not good enough. They’re now without their leading rusher.”

It’s a massive blow for Mississippi State, which trailed Alabama 21-7 after Keelon Russell ran one in from 16 yards out as the second quarter began. Bothwell had 73 carries for 402 yards and three touchdowns through four games for the Bulldogs.

Despite getting banged up against Mizzou, he took 25 carries for 122 yards and a score. Week 4 marked his third straight game with 100 yards or more. Now, though, the Bulldogs will be forced to battle back from a deficit without their running back.
