Former Alabama QB AJ McCarron spent the 2019 season with the Houston Texans, serving as Deshaun Watson’s primary backup.

The new NFL season started on Monday, and that meant free agency began, too. It didn’t take long for McCarron to sign a new contract.

Per his Instagram, McCarron will be back with the Texans for the 2020 season:

It’s unclear at this point how many years the contract is for, but it seems he’ll be there at least through 2020. He’ll likely still serve as Watson’s main backup.

However, after the Texans traded DeAndre Hopkins on Monday, the receiving corps just got a whole lot thinner for the Houston quarterbacks.
