Dylan Lonergan will be Boston College’s starting quarterback to begin the 2025 season, according to a report.

That news was first shared by ESPN’s Pete Thamel, who notes that Lonergan is a former Alabama transfer who was once an elite recruit. He initially arrived in Tuscaloosa back in the class of 2023 as a 4-star prospect.

Now Lonergan will get the opportunity to lead his own team:

Lonergan transferred to Boston College after the 2024 season. He spent 2 seasons in Tuscaloosa but played sparingly. He threw just 8 passes across 3 appearances over those 2 years. Rather than stay at Alabama to compete with Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and Keelon Russell, Lonergan decided to head to BC last December.

That choice proved to be a good one, as this news comes just one day after Simpson reportedly won the Alabama starting QB job. Lonergan was an underdog in the BC battle to Grayson James entering fall camp, but ended up doing enough to win the job.

Former Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is entering his second season as Boston College’s head coach. O’Brien had already left Tuscaloosa by the time Lonergan enrolled, but he was with the Crimson Tide when they initially offered him a scholarship back in 2021.

Lonergan will make his first career start against Fordham on Aug. 30.
