Josh Jacobs has the inside track at being the main running back for the Oakland Raiders this season, but he has his sights set on something much bigger.
The former Alabama running back was picked 24th overall in the NFL Draft this spring. In an interview with Steve Smith on the NFL Network, Jacobs revealed that he’s also been used as a receiver in early workouts.
“When a linebacker comes out, it’s going to be dangerous,” he said. “So we’re going to see how that works out.”
Jacobs candidly shared how his father raised five children in a single-parent home, and how Jacobs didn’t have his own bed until college. He said his father told him to work hard, be a good person and have faith and everything will work out.
“I’m not happy and comfortable being in the league,” Jacobs said. “I feel like if I want to do it, I want to be one of the best to ever do it.”
Smith asked Jacobs to reveal the best backs of all-time and he replied with Jim Brown, Walter Payton and Barry Sanders. In the current game, Jacobs said Ezekiel Elliott, Todd Gurley and Alvin Kamara are among the best.
“I kind of try to steal from all of them,” he said, and added that Marshall Faulk is a “once-in-a-generation type player.” Smith added that people say the same about Jacobs.
Jacobs replied, “I’ve got a lot to prove.”
Jim Brown. Barry Sanders. Walter Payton.@iAM_JoshJacobs has studied some of the best to ever do it — and hopes one day his name will be up there with the rest of them. He sat down with @NFLNetwork's Steve Smith Sr. to discuss.
