Former Alabama star Minkah Fitzpatrick snaps Jets’ historic INT drought

All droughts are meant to come to an end, and the New York Jets are celebrating that reality Sunday.

Among the many talking points that have surrounded the Jets’ struggles in recent years has been the team’s inability to force turnovers.

And no statistic better represented that issue than the fact that New York hadn’t intercepted a pass since Jan. 6, 2025. That meant the team had faced 643 pass attempts and an NFL-record 20 regular-season games without picking off an opponent.

But Sunday, the organization eliminated that stat from being ammunition to use against it anymore, and a recent acquisition is the man to thank for that change.

During the second quarter of the Jets’ battle with the Bears on Sunday in Chicago, backup quarterback Tyson Bagent dropped back to pass for the home side. His throw over the middle of the field was intercepted by former Alabama star Minkah Fitzpatrick, who ran under the ball and promptly returned it deep into Chicago territory.

In his inaugural season with the club, it’s safe to say that Fitzpatrick has already brought new life to New York’s secondary, with this being his first true action after recording just six snaps in the season opener.
